Jane Austen. Walt Disney. Practically the same person...sorta...
As I was sitting in my kitchen, using my laptop to keep the napkins from blowing off the table to the extreme force of our heater/air conditioner, I pondered how to spice up my research paper on Jane Austen. Even though my teachers usually ask me cut this part out, I cannot help putting a little personality in my papers. If they are boring and dull and stuffy, I fall asleep writing them.

Anywho, I was thinking about how dramatically Elizabeth tells Mr. Darcy she won't marry him after his heartfelt proposal. He just walks away I think after a short discussion but I think he should have said something sassy (not that British men have any sass). While coming up with something for him to say these words entered my mind: "If she doesn't eat with (change eat with to marry) me, then she doesn't eat (marry) at all."
Then it all started clicking into place.
1) Belle and Elizabeth Bennet: Both book worms, both intelligent, and both independent. Both have strong relationships with their fathers.
2) The Beast and Mr. Darcy: Both have some fault that the girl doesn't like (a temper/pride...or is it prejudice?). Both don't really talk to people and live in their huge house.
3) Gaston and Mr. Wickham: Both are selfish and conceited. Both want the girl but fail miserably. Both have a grudge against the hero. Both have ridiculous girls swoon over them (those 3 blond girls that have no apparent part in the plot/Lydia and Kitty).
4) The couple: The girl loves adventure and is a little different and everybody says it (the townspeople/mostly Mrs. Bennet and Liz' sister). They both meet the hero through some incident involving their father (her father is taken prisoner/Mr. Bennet gets them invited to the ball). Both couples don't really like each other at first but the guy falls for the girl but she thinks he's a creep for something he did to harm a family member of hers(Belle won't eat dinner with him because he was mean to her father/Elizabeth won't marry him because he broke up Jane and Bingley). Then, the hero saves the girl from the villain (the beast kills Gaston/Mr. Darcy exposes Wickam's past) and both sacrifice something for the girl (the beast dies/ Mr. Darcy pays for Lydia's wedding) then SURPRISE! that sacrifice wins her over and they get married and live happily ever after.
I realize anyone reading this is probably thinking, "Mary, you're a nerd for thinking all this up" but guess what? I'm an English Major. I'm a Disney Lover. I'm a girl, the hopeless romantic type that reads P&P and watches Disney romances. I'm hungry and in need of distraction. AND...I really don't want to write that boring paper I mentioned two eons ago. =)
Also...I'm not crazy. Other people have noticed connections like this one. Watch this video and please laugh. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2lF5xD-K94
